Follow Hockey Safety Tips Like These And Avoid Major Injuries

Article by Janey Dart

It’s important to learn the latest hockey safety tips before your kids begin playing this wonderful winter sport. Every year, many kids and adults are injured during hockey games and practices. While there are many possible reasons for injuries it is safe to say that many are the direct result of inadequate attention to safety precautions. When parents get involved in the process of ensuring safety, education, and prevention, many of these injuries can be avoided. Only so much can be done to prevent injury due to the rough nature of playing hockey. But there is no reason not to make every effort to ensure better safety principles on the ice. Today, we will help you discover some excellent hockey safety tips so your season will be a safe one.

It may not be required in many leagues but neck protection is available. Though not required, it’s a good idea to invest in neck protectors while playing hockey. Hockey moves at a very rapid speed and many things can happen on the ice. Close quarters are often involved including swinging hockey sticks and flying pucks. It’s no major feat for a neck to be slashed in the process. Not only that, but it is certainly possible for a player to be down amidst other skaters. This is when the blades of skates can be a huge risk. One piece of protective equipment that is common to other sports is the cup that provides protection for the groin. It may not be unique to hockey but with pucks and sticks flying high and fast, it’s a very important protective measure.

These usually come with undershorts that are designed specifically for the cup. Or you may need to purchase and use an athletic supporter along with the cup. Since groin hits can be particularly painful you should never play hockey, or practice, without the protection provided by a cup. No one wants to even contemplate the pain of a full on hit to the groin from a hockey puck without groin protection. When you stop and think about it, we are confident you do not want to experience that kind of pain. Don’t take that risk!

Proper hockey gloves are also necessary to play hockey. When it comes to hockey, hands are important and gloves prevent injuries to your hand. The hands are filled with tiny bones that can be broken easily. Broken bones in the hand also take a notoriously long time to heal. It’s important to wear gloves that fit well. Gloves that fit loosely are a constant battle to keep on. This makes proper stick handling difficult. Not only that, but you will be constantly distracted during the game.

It is critical that you play hockey as safely as you can. No, we don’t mean don’t play hard, but be sure you have all the hockey safety tips down plus you wear all of the best safety gear.
