It may not be unique to hockey but with pucks and sticks flying high and fast, it’s a very important protective measure.
These usually come with undershorts that are designed specifically for the cup. Or you may need to purchase and use an athletic supporter along with the cup. Since groin hits can be particularly painful you should never play hockey, or practice, without the protection provided by a cup. No one wants to even contemplate the pain of a full on hit to the groin from a hockey puck without groin protection. Proper hockey gloves are also necessary to play hockey. When it comes to hockey, hands are important and gloves prevent injuries to your hand. The hands are filled with tiny bones that can be broken easily. Broken bones in the hand also take a notoriously long time to heal. It’s important to wear gloves that fit well. Gloves that fit loosely are a constant battle to keep on. This makes proper stick handling difficult. Not only that, but you will be constantly distracted during the game.
