How To Play Basketball Effectively

Article by Wesley Channels

How to play basketball is a question that many young people think about. With their eager thoughts to finding out about it, they believe that’s it’s simple. Most view players on television and assume that the game is easy.

The game of basketball can be simple and easy if you know how to play it properly. The reason I say this is that most people only think about shooting and offense when they think about basketball. Basketball is about way more than just shooting and offense.

Basketball is also about defense, rebounding, setting screens, and mental toughness. Those are all things that separate good players from great players. Great players know how to do all of those things mentioned above.

If you are interested in learning how to play basketball, you should start out the correct way by learning about all areas of the game. If you would like a book to help you, I recommend “How To Play Basketball” which can be found http://www.ballerslist.com/pages/blspp. The book gives countless drills, tips, and strategies from a professional basketball player.

Practice all areas of the game. It’s seen often that players focus on one area of the game “Offense”. When working out others won’t be enthusiastic about playing defense or rebounding for examples. Don’t let that rub off on you. In order to succeed you’ll have to be able to do more than just offense. So when working out, work hard at dribbling, rebounding, defense, and screening. All areas of the game! This will help you become a complete player. In the long term you will by pass the players that are one-dimensional, I promise!

I thought about basketball everyday. In order to obtain something that?s difficult to get, you must think about it all the time. Things that you think about the most will come to you.

Get started today learning how to be effective in basketball.

A Beginner’s Guide on How to Play Soccer

Article by Corrie Duana

So you want to play soccer? Is it for recreation or are you playing a game of organized soccer. Because if you play soccer for recreation, all you need is some empty space to kick a ball around and a soccer ball. But if you?re playing on the more organized level then you need to have the essential equipment that the game requires. To outline these essential things you need, first essential would be of course the soccer ball. Without it, it?s not much of soccer, right? Next is a soccer cleats to protect your feet. It also allows you to kick the ball correctly. Then a soccer field would be the last.

22 players and 11 members per team play soccer. Positions can be variable depending on the soccer formation and strategy employed, but usually a team roster includes a goalkeeper and a couple of defenders, midfielders and attackers.

Dribbling the BallTo dribble the ball, you should wear a proper soccer cleats. Without it you risk injury. Start this demonstration by putting down the ball near you feet. Now begin your forward advance taking the ball with you. How to do that? Push the ball forward with your foot as you make a step forward. Begin the dribble with a weak kick and maintain the ball rolling by kicking the ball alternately.

By the way, for those intermediate dribblers, here?s a video link showing a standard fake dribble. It is used to mislead your opponents to a certain direction while you actually go for another, just like a crossover. Actually, in soccer parlance, this is a crossover, by faking to move the ball to another direction then do the actual move after the fake.

Passing the BallPassing the ball is very easy, though the hardest part of passing accuracy. This is the starter player?s handicap. To do a standard rolling pass, you should kick the ball with the inside of your foot (instep and toe part). Your kick should hit the lateral part of the ball for it to travel in a roll. Kicking with the inside part of the foot also allows accuracy, wherein the arch is used to provide the ball direction. Ok, try it. Kick the ball with modest force with the arch providing direction.

Intermediate Passing and ShootingThe link also featured how to do a high pass. Notice how his foot made contact with the ball. For the ball to fly, the bottom of the ball should be hit while kicking. And to provide direction, the inside part (the toe part) of your foot should be the main contact of the bottom (of the ball)

Shooting the ball is the same as passing by a high ball. Even a rolling pass is considered shooting if it is used to score a goal. So now you see the importance of passing.

Playing soccer is easy; being good at soccer takes a bit more effort. To be competent on the sport, the only way is to practice and play. To be better, yet more practice and playing. But to be the best, again practice and play.

How to Play Soccer – Soccer Formations

Article by Nigel Reed

To the uninitiated, soccer formations might sound complicated. But with the help of a few practical examples, you can learn about the 4-4-2 formation right up to the more obscure ones at the other end of the scale.

A soccer formation is the way that the coach arranges his eleven players on the field. Generally these rotate around the four cardinal soccer positions for football formations: goalkeeper, defense, midfield, and attack. The formations given in numbers are simply the number of defenders, midfielders, and attackers in the line-up. (There’s no need to provide the 1 at the start for a goalkeeper as it’s pretty much a given that every team needs one goalie!)

Formations make a difference as they can cancel out what the opposition coach has planned, as well as serve the strengths of your own soccer team. For example, if you have three great forwards, you might try a 4-3-3, or if you have some very fast, fit, small players, you can attack up the wings in a 4-4-2.

With that in mind, we’ll take a look at some of the popular soccer formations below.

4-4-2: Every aspiring soccer coach has the 442 as his trusty standby. This classic formation grew popular in the mid-to-late 20th century and features four defenders, four midfielders, and two forwards. Within this there is variance, but generally the players who are in the middle are more defensive while the creativity comes from out wide. Tall, commanding centre-backs can pass the ball to swift full-backs, who play at either side of the defensive ‘four’, and they will in turn feed the ‘wingers’ ahead of them, while the central midfielders will play the simple passes and also tackle the opposition. Up front are two strikers whose job it is to hold the ball up and wait for support, or simply to put it in the back of the net!

4-4-2 Diamond: This 4-4-2 variant places more emphasis on central play, with a ?playmaker? in the middle of the midfield four supporting the forwards. This must be a player of vision and with a great pass. The full-backs have to support the forwards, too, with bursting runs, while the remaining three midfielders have a lot of defensive work to do.

3-5-2: The 3-5-2 works similarly up front to the other two, but other than that it varies due to a change on the wings ? the wide part of the field. The five-man midfield generally contains two ?wing-backs?, who combine the role of the full back with that of an attacker. These players must be very fit as they’ll be running up and down those lines for a full 90 minutes! As soccer lineups go the 3-5-2 is becoming unfashionable, but with the right wide players available, not to mention a tough-tackling defensive midfielder in the middle of the five, it can work very well.

4-5-1: A very ‘negative’, defensive formation, the 4-5-1 ironically gives a great deal of work to the lone attacker up front. This striker may have to do a lot of dribbling, holding up the ball, and passing backwards to gain the support of his midfield. Still, with wingers, it can be a fine formation with which to practice the ‘counter-attack’ (breaking forward to score while the opposition are
